Best Du`aa is Done Privately

السلام عليكم
Since it is around the times of Laylatul Qadr, here is a Hadeeth on an etiquette of du`aa.

Taken from my person copy of Wasaa’il (Wasaa’il Al-Shee`ah, vol. 4, pg. 1113)

Taken from Wasaa’il Al-Shee`ah, vol. 7, Kitaab Al-Salaah, Section of Du`aa, Ch. 22
بَابُ اسْتِحْبَابِ الدُّعَاءِ سِرّاً وَ خُفْيَةً وَ اخْتِيَارِهِ عَلَى الدُّعَاءِ عَلَانِيَةً
“Chapter on the desirability of du`aa in privately and secretly and the preference over the du`aa (done) outwardly”

  1. Salam,

Is privately and publicly referring to silently and loudly respectively. Or is it talking about making Du'a alone, instead of in a group or gathering?

  2. This is referring to praying in a way that others don't know - not praying alone vs. a gathering.
