Here is what one of our greatest classical scholars, Al-Toosi has said in his Fiqh book:
و لا يجوز السّجود إلّا على الأرض أو ما أنبتته الأرض، إلّا ما أكل أو لبس، و لا يجوز السّجود على القبر
“And sajdah is not allowed except upon the earth or what grows (from) the earth, except what (can be) eaten or worn, and sajdah is not allowed upon the grave”

Are the other two hadiths Saheeh as well?

^^ This hadeeth is a Hasan Kal-SaHeeH hadeeth, only reason it is Hasan is because of Ibraaheem bin Haashim. Everyone else is highly thiqah.

Why did you translate this as "And he recited the letter and from his copy"? Shouldn't it be: "And I recited the letter (tawqee') and copied from it (the following)"

it's a complicated issue and i agree that sujood upon the grave or praying towards the grave is totally forbidden and haram and incurs allah's wrath but not all sujood is a form of worship. we know that angels did sujood for Adam by allah's order so did they worship adam.

ReplyDelete1. AsHaab Al-Kahf incident took place before the advent of the Prophet Muhammad (SAWAS), so whatever happened back then will be abolished by the Prophet (SAWAS)
2. Also, if you notice the hadeeth that talks about the Jews took such places as worship, if you notice in the Qur'aan, Allaah (SWT) doesn't take a stance, that doesn't mean that it is "okay" as some misguided Shee`ahs think. Because that means you must go to the hadeeth to see what is being said about that specific verse. And when you got to the hadeeth, our Imaams have neither commented or praised such an action of building a mosque on the grave. Instead, they have condemned building upon graves and building mosques upon graves.
can brother nader tell me what does he mean? if you mean sjood towards the grave then i am with him hundred per cent that if its forbidden because it opens the doors towards shirk even if it's done by some in way of etreme humbleness and respect for the one in the grave but it's better to avoid this completely as man can be tempted by the devil to escalate this into shirk akbar BUT if Nader means that building a masjid upon the grave of pious man is an innovation then i compeletly disagree. so would brother Nader explain what he's talking about !

in the mean time here's some viewss about sujood towards the grave and similar acts that was done by some sahabah like abu ayoob al-ansari who put his face on the grave and we know that the grave of the prophet is only few inches high before it was built upon so to put the face on the grave requires a posture similar to sujood:

حدثنا : عبد الملك بن عمرو ، حدثنا : كثير بن زيد ، عن داود بن أبي صالح قال : أقبل مروان يوماً فوجد رجلاً واضعاً وجهه على القبر فقال : أتدري ما تصنع فاقبل عليه فإذا هو أبو أيوب فقال : نعم جئت رسول الله (ص) ولم آت الحجر سمعت رسول الله (ص) يقول لا تبكوا على الدين إذا وليه أهله ولكن إبكوا عليه إذا وليه غير أهله.
so marwan found abu ayyoob alansari (ra) putting his face on the grave of rasool allah so marwan didn't like it then he found out that it was the sahabi abu ayyoob al-ansari(ra) and abu ayyoob answered him : i didn't come to visit the stones but came to visit rasool allah (saww) ...
the hadith narrators are all thiqat apart from katheer ibn zaid and he's sadooq who errs and dhahabi agreed with abu zar3a in al-kashif when he said that he (katheer ibn zaid is upright with some leniency.
so hadith is hasan walhamdulilleh.
also we know that sujood in way of veneration and extreme love was done by angels to adam (as) and also by brothers of yussof to yussof(as).
dhahabi didn't even call the one who does this kaffir but just a sinner and i agree with him because it can lead to create false conceptions in the heart of ignorants and can lead to other innovations so i must be avoided completely.
but i am waiting for what brother Nader would say !
So the prayers held in Kerbala, around Imam Husain's grave are wrong? Ive never been there, but have always seen pictures of namaz being performed there.

ReplyDeleteImam Ash-Shafi'i: On one occasion Imam Shafi'ee said concerning the Shia, "I have not seen among the heretics a people more famous for falsehood than the Raafidi* Shia." and on another occasion he said; "Narrate knowledge from everyone you meet except for the Raafidi* Shia, because they invent ahaadeeth and adopt them as part of their religion." (Minhaj as-Sunnah an-Nabawiyyah)
