Permissibility of Drying Yourself After Wudu

I was asked a question (via the "Contact Us Form" on the right of the blog) about the source to where the scholars say it is permissible to use a towel to dry yourself after wuDoo'. Here is a SaHeeH hadeeth about the permissibility of drying yourself with a towel or handkerchief after performing your wuDoo’, before the water dries.

From Muhammad bin Muslim said: I asked Abaa `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) about wiping (after wuDoo’) with a towel before (the water) dries. He (عليه السلام) said: ‘There is no problem in it.’

Excellence of Memorizing the Qur'an

Here are three SaHeeH (Authentic) aHaadeeth about the excellence of memorizing the Qur’aan. The Second hadeeth talks about however many verses of the Qur’aan you memorize you will be raised that much levels in heaven. For example, if you were to memorize 100 verses of the Qur’aan, you will be raised 100 darajaat (pl. daraj) in heaven.  The third hadeeth talks about if you have difficulty in memorizing the Qur’aan, and you still try to memorize it, you will be rewarded two folds. This shows the great mercy of Allaah (سبحانه و تعالى). All of the aHaadeeth go through the same chain of narrators.

Inshaa’Allaah, may Allaah (سبحانه و تعالى) allow all of us become a haafidh (protector – a person who has memorized the Qur’aan). Aameen.

I will be with you whenever you will go. Every trader is after his trade. Today I look after the trade of everyone who had a deal with me. Honor will come to you from Allah (عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ) as good news for you and a crown and peace will be placed on his head. And he will be given peace on his right hand and eternal life in paradise in his left hand and he will be dressed with two dresses, then he will be told: ‘Read and climb.’ For each verse that he will read he will elevated one darajah (level) and his parents, if they are of the believers, will each receive two dresses of paradise and they will be told: ‘This is for teaching the Holy Quran to him (your child).’”

Authenticity of Jamia Kabeer

I have received a question via the “Contact Us Form” on the top right of the blog about the authenticity of Ziyaarah Jaami` Al-Kabeer. Since other people might be interested in the authenticity of this ziyaarah, I believe it will be fruitful to post my reponse to the brother’s questions.

I am purely showing the authenticity of the ziyaarah by the isnaad. This ziyaarah can be found here.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Question:
Asalamo Alaikum,

Br Nader can you post some of the authentic ziaraat of the masomeen (as). I would especially like to know about the authenticity of Ziarat jamia kabeer.

Answer:

Jaami` Al-Kabeer by isnaad (chain of narrators) is da`eef (weak).

Sources of this Ziyaarah:
1.     Al-Toosi, Tahdheeb Al-aHkaam, vol. 6, pg. 95, hadeeth # 1
2.     Al-Sadooq, Man Laa YaHDuruh Al-Faqeeh, vol. 2, pg. 609, hadeeth # 3213
3.     Al-Kaf`amee, Al-Balad Al-Ameen, pg. 297 (no chain of narrators here)

Grading:
Al-Majlisi said this hadeeth (in Tahdheeb Al-aHkaam) is Majhool (Unknown)
--> Milaadh Al-Akhyaar, vol. 9, pg. 247

In Al-Sadooq's book Man Laa YaHDuruh Al-Faqeeh the chain of narrators is said to be this: (Green = Majhool)

By [the] way Al-Sadooq has said this isnaad, you will need to go to the Tareeq (path) of how Al-Sadooq got his hadeeth from Muhammad bin Ismaa`eel Al-Barmakee. According to Al-Khoei in his Mu`jam Rijaal Al-Hadeeth, the tareeq from Sadooq to Muhammad bin Ismaa`eel Al-Barmakee is:

After Al-Khoei mentions this Tareeq from Al-Sadooq to Al-Barmakee (Muhammad bin ismaa`eel), he says this:

"And the Tareeq is NOT SaHeeH because the Mashaayakh (shaykhs) of Al-Sadooq that are mentioned have no mention of tawtheeq (authenticity) for them"
Source:
1.     Al-Khoei, Mu`jam Rijaal Al-Hadeeth, vol. 15, pg. 93

So both Al-Khoei and Al-Majlisi have said by isnaad (chain of narrators) the Ziyaarah Jaami` Al-Kabeer are da`eef / majhool.

Wallaahu A`lim

Ziyarah of Hussain is Obligatory

Here is a Muwaththaq (Reliable) hadeeth that says that performing the Ziyaarah of Imaam Al-Hussayn is farD (obligatory) upon anyone who acknowledges Imaam Al-Hussayn (عليه السلام) as their Imaam. This hadeeth has two versions, I have added both versions.

From Muhammad bin Muslim from Abee Ja`far (عليه السلام) said: “Order (command) our Shee`ahs for the ziyaarah of the grave of Al-Hussayn (عليه السلام), for verily, it increases rizq (sustenance), it prolongs life, and keeps affliction away, and it is farD (obligatory) upon EVERY mu’min (believer) who acknowledges that Al-Hussayn is an Imaam from Allaah”

Sending Salaams to the Prophets and Ahl Al-Bayt

Here is a SaHeeH hadeeth that talks about what happens to the Prophets (عليهم السلام) and the Ahl Al-Bayt (عليهم السلام) when they die. This hadeeth also discusses the permissibility of sending our salaams to them (عليهم السلام) from their graves after their death.

The Killers of Hussain and the Killers of Prophet Yahya

Here are three authentic aHaadeeth about the similarities between the killer of Prophet YaHya bin Zakariyya (عليه السلام) and Imaam Al-Hussayn (عليه السلام). This Hadeeth is mutawaatir (widely reported), but I just wanted to show the authentic narrations. Imaam Ja`far al-Saadiq (عليه السلام) has used the word walad zina which means “illegitimate child” to describe the killers.

(SaHeeH Hadeeth) From Kulayb bin Mu`aawiyah from Abee `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) said: “The killer of YaHya bin Zakarriya (عليه السلام) was a walad zina and the killer of Al-Hussayn (عليه السلام) was a walad zina. And the skies have not cried (on anyone) except them two.”

Angels Visiting Hussain

From Rabee` (bin `Abd Allaah) said: I said to Abee `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) in Madeenah: ‘Where are the graves of the martyrs?’ So he (عليه السلام) said: “Isn’t the best of martyrs near you?” I swear to he who has my life in His Hand that there are four thousand disheveled angels around the grave of al-Hussayn (عليه السلام) (who are covered) with dust that are crying (over him) until the Day of Judgment.

The Children of the Killers of Hussain

Here is a Muwaththaq (Reliable) hadeeth that goes through two Muwaththaq (Reliable) chains of narrators about the Qur’aanic verse of Soorah Al-Baqarah (2) : Verse 193 and how it refers to the killers of Imaam Al-Hussayn (عليه السلام).

From Samaa`ah bin Mihraan from Abee `Abd Allaah that He (تبارك و تعالى): “There should be no hostility except against the oppressors (2:193). He (عليه السلام) said: ‘(refers to) The children of the killers of Al-Hussayn (عليه السلام)’”

The same hadeeth goes through another chain as well, which is also a Muwaththaq (Reliable) chain.

Foretelling the Martyrdom of Hussain

Here are Authentic aHaadeeth about Jibra’eel foretelling the martyrdom of Imaam Al-Hussayn (عليه السلام) to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم). We have always heard this specific narration through Sunni sources, but I wanted to focus on the authentic aHaadeeth  from the Ahl Al-Bayt (عليه السلام) from Shee`ah sources.

“Chapter 17 – Jibra’eel says to the Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) that ‘Al-Hussayn (عليه السلام) will be killed by your Ummah after you’, and he (Jibra'eel) showed him (The Prophet) the dirt which he (Hussayn) will be killed upon”

(SaHeeH (Authentic) Hadeeth) From Abee `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) that Jibra’eel (عليه السلام) came to the Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and Al-Hussayn was playing in front of him (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم). Jibra’eel informed him that his nation would kill him (Al-Hussayn), so the Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) became worried.

Jibra’eel (عليه السلام) said: ‘Shall I not show you the land on which he will be killed?’

Then (the land between Karbalaa’ and Madeenah) decreased (sunk) what is between where the Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) was sitting and the land that Al-Hussayn (عليه السلام) will be killed until the pieces (of land) were attached.

Then Jibra’eel (عليه السلام) took from it (dirt from Karbalaa’). Thereafter, the earth returned to the way it was in less than a blink of an eye. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: ‘Bliss for you for the dirt! And bliss for those who will be killed upon you!’

He (Al-Saadiq (عليه السلام)) said: ‘Like that the companion of Sulaymaan (did the same thing). He mentioned the great name of Allaah and the earth between Sulaymaan’s bed and the throne decreased within the ground. The earth and all of its flexible and inflexiable parts sank within the ground, and lifted the throne before the two pieces of land were attached. So Sulaymaan (عليه السلام) said: ‘It looks like it came out from under my bed’

He (Al-Saadiq (عليه السلام)) said: ‘And the earth returned to the way it was in less than a blink of an eye.’”

(Muwaththaq (Reliable) Hadeeth) From Abee `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) said: “Jibra’eel announced (the death of) Al-Hussayn (عليه السلام) to the Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) in the house of Umm Salamah. And Al-Hussayn (عليه السلام) entered upon him (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) when Jibra’eel was with him. So he (Jibra’eel) said: ‘Verily, your ummah will kill him (Al-Hussayn)’. So the Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: ‘Show me from the dirt which his blood will be shed.’ Then Jibra’eel took a handful from that dirt, and it was red dirt. And Umm Salamah did not get rid of it (the dirt of Karbalaa’) until she died, may Allaah have mercy upon her.”

(Hasan (Good) Hadeeth) `Abd Al-Malak bin A`yan said: “I heard Abaa `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) and he said that the Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) was in the house of Umm Salamah when Jibra’eel entered upon Al-Hussayn (عليه السلام). So Jibra’eel (عليه السلام) said to him (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم): ‘Verily, your ummah will kill your son. Shall I not show you the dirt from the earth which he will be killed?’ So the Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: ‘Yes’. Jibra’eel dropped (extended) his hand and took a handful from it (the dirt) and showed it to the Prophet
