Praying Behind Whom You Do Not Follow

Chapter on the prayer behind one whom you do not follow (trust his faith)

محمد، عن أحمد، عن عبدالله بن محمد الحجال، عن ثعلبة، عن زرارة قال: سألت أبا جعفر (عليه السلام) عن الصلاة خلف المخالفين فقال ما هم عندي إلا بمنزلة الجدر (صحيح)

Muhammad (bin Yahya) from Ahmad (bin Muhammad) from Abdallah bin Muhammad al-Hajjal from Tha’laba (bin Maymun) from Zurara (bin A’yan) who said : I asked Aba Ja’far (a.s) about the prayer behind the opponents, so He (a.s) said : they do not have with me (in my estimation) any status except as (that given to) walls. (Sahih

NOTE : In other words they do not have any role in leading your prayer, just as a wall which is in front of you when you pray.


علي بن أبراهيم، عن أبيه، عن ابن أبي عمير، عن حماد بن عثمان، عن الحلبي عن أبي عبدالله (عليه السلام) قال: إذا صليت خلف إمام لا تقتدي به فاقرأ خلفه سمعت قرائته أو لم تسمع (حسن)

Ali bin Ibrahim from his father (Ibrahim bin Hashim) from Ibn Abi Umayr from Hammad bin Uthman from al-Halabiy from Abi Abdillah (a.s) who said : If you pray behind an imam you do not follow then recite behind him (al-Fatiha and the other Surah – for yourself) whether you hear him reciting it (in those prayers in which the voice is to be raised – Subh, Maghrib and Isha) or not (in those prayers in which the voice is not to be raised – Dhuhr and Asr) (Hasan due to Ibrahim bin Hashim)


محمد بن يحيى، عن أحمد بن محمد، عن الحسن بن علي بن فضال، عن ابن بكير، عن زرارة قال: قلت لابي عبدالله (عليه السلام): أكون مع الامام فأفرغ من القرأة قبل أن يفرغ قال: ابق آية ومجد الله واثن عليه فإذا فرغ فاقرء الآية واركع (موثق)
                 
Muhammad bin Yahya from Ahmad bin Muhammad from Hasan bin Ali bin Faddal from Ibn Bukayr from Zurara (bin A’yan) who said : I said to Abi Abdillah (a.s) : I am (praying behind) an imam, and I complete my recitation (of al-Fatiha and the other Surah) before he (the imam) completes reciting (al-Fatiha and the other Surah), He (a.s) said : leave (for yourself - unrecited) an Ayah (a verse from the recitation of the other Surah) and (meanwhile as the imam is finishing up his recitation you) glorify Allah (s.w.t) and magnify Him, so when he completes reciting (al-Fatiha and the other Surah) recite that Ayah and go into Rukuu. (Muwathaq due to Ibn Fadhal and Ibn Bukayr)

NOTE : The imam referred to here is clearly one who is of the opponents, and since you recite for yourself behind him - it happens that in those prayers in which the imam is to raise his voice (such as Subh, Maghrib and Isha) you are reciting parallel to him, and you may complete before he does, so the Imam (as) says - leave the last Ayah of the other Surah unrecited until the imam finishes his recitation, then you recite it and complete your recitation (meanwhile while you wait for the imam to complete his recitation you are to glorify and magnify Allah (s.w.t))
(Note that in the above comment,  Imam with a capital ‘I’ refers to the infallible Imam (a.s), and imam with a small ‘i’ to the leader of the congregational prayer and this will be the usage throughout).


علي بن إبراهيم، عن أبيه، عن حماد، عن حريز، عن زرارة قال: قلت لابي جعفر (عليه السلام): إن اناسا رووا عن أمير المؤمنين صلوات الله عليه أنه صلى أربع ركعات بعد الجمعة لم يفصل بينهن بتسليم؟ فقال: يازرارة إن أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام) صلى خلف فاسق فلما سلم وانصرف قام أمير المؤمنين صلوات الله عليه فصلى أربع ركعات لم يفصل بينهن بتسليم فقال له رجل جنبه: ياأبا الحسن صليت أربع ركعات لم تفصل بينهن؟ فقال: إنها أربع ركعات مشبهات وسكت.
فوالله ما عقل ما قال له (حسن)

Ali bin Ibrahim from his father (Ibrahim bin Hashim) from Hammad (bin Isa) from Hariz (bin Abdillah) from Zurara (bin A'yan) who said : I said to Abi Ja'far (a.s) : the people narrate about the commander of the faithful - Ali (a.s) - that he prayed four Rakaat (units) of prayer after friday congregational prayer without partitioning between them with the Taslim (as one does in between two different - two Rakaat Mustahhab/recommended prayers), so He (a.s) said : O Zurara, indeed the commander of the faithful had prayed (the friday congregational prayers) behind a Fasiq (corrupted individual), so when he (the corrupted individual) completed that (leading the prayer) and left, the commander of the faithful stood up and prayed four Rakaat of prayers without partitioning between them with the Taslim (i.e He (a.s) prayed a complete Dhuhr), so a man who was by his side (in the row) asked him : O Abal Hassan! you have prayed four Rakaat of prayer without partitioning between them? so He (a.s) said : They are four Rakaat of ambiguous (calling into doubt the imam’s nature) Rakaat and remained silent; so (Abi Ja'far (a.s) says) : I swear by Allah (s.w.t), he the man (who had asked the question) did not understand what was said to him (by Ali (a.s)). (Hasan due to Ibrahim bin Hashim)

NOTE : The commander of the faithful had to do this because of Taqiyyah (dissimulation), and sometimes he would pray two units after the Friday congregational prayer without breaking in between making it four of Dhuhr, and what more proof of the need of the Adalah of the imam of prayers after this.

Eating and Drinking in Gold & Silver Utensils

Here are Authentic aHaadeeth about the dislike of eating and drinking in silver and gold utensils.




مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ بَزِيعٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا ع عَنْ آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَ الْفِضَّةِ فَكَرِهَهُمَا فَقُلْتُ قَدْ رَوَى بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِنَا أَنَّهُ كَانَ لِأَبِي الْحَسَنِ ع مِرْآةٌ مُلَبَّسَةٌ فِضَّةً فَقَالَ لَا وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ إِنَّمَا كَانَتْ لَهَا حَلْقَةٌ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ وَ هِيَ عِنْدِي ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ الْعَبَّاسَ حِينَ عُذِرَ عُمِلَ لَهُ قَضِيبٌ مُلَبَّسٌ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ مِنْ نَحْوِ مَا يُعْمَلُ لِلصِّبْيَانِ تَكُونُ فِضَّتُهُ نَحْواً مِنْ عَشَرَةِ دَرَاهِمَ فَأَمَرَ بِهِ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ع فَكُسِرَ

From Muhammad bin Ismaa`eel bin Bazee` said, I asked Abaa Al-Hasan Al-RiDaa (عليه السلام) about gold and silver utensils which he disliked them and I said, ‘It is narrated from certain of our companions that Aboo Al-Hasan (عليه السلام) had a mirror with silver coverings.’ So he (عليه السلام) said: ‘No, al-Hamdulillaah, it had a ring of silver and it is with me’, then he (عليه السلام) said: ‘When Al-`Abbaas was circumcised a stick with a silver coating was made for him like things that are made for children. It had about ten dirham of silver and Aboo Al-Hasan (عليه السلام) (said) ‘to break it.’’

From Al-Halabee from Abee `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) said: “Do not eat in silver utensils and do not (eat) in silver-plated utensils”

From Burayd from Abee `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) that he disliked drinking in silver (utensils) and in silver-plated cups and also that (he disliked) perfuming in silver-plated perfumes and combs”

Here is a Muwaththaq (Reliable) hadeeth:


رَوَى سَمَاعَةُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ لَا يَنْبَغِي الشُّرْبُ فِي آنِيَةِ الْفِضَّةِ وَ الذَّهَبِ

It has been narrated from Samaa`ah from Abee `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) said: “It is not appropriate to eat in silver and gold utensils”

The Tareeq (Path) from Al-Sadooq to Samaa`ah (bin Mihraan) is SaHeeH according to Al-Khoei:
و كيف كان فطريق الصدوق إليه أبوه رضي الله عنه عن علي بن إبراهيم بن هاشم عن أبيه عن عثمان بن عيسى العامري عنه، و الطريق صحيح.

Here is a SaHeeH (Authentic) hadeeth:


وَ رَوَى أَبَانٌ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ع قَالَ لَا تَأْكُلْ فِي آنِيَةِ ذَهَبٍ وَ لَا فِضَّةٍ

From Muhammad bin Muslim from Abee Ja`far (عليه السلام) said: “Do not eat from gold and silver utensils”

و طريق الصدوق إليه: محمد بن الحسن - رضي الله عنه - عن محمد بن الحسن الصفار، عن يعقوب بن يزيد و أيوب بن نوح و إبراهيم بن هاشم و محمد بن عبد الجبار، كلهم عن محمد بن أبي عمير و صفوان بن يحيى، و طريقه إليه صحيح

Here is a SaHeeH (Authentic) hadeeth:

وَ رَوَى ثَعْلَبَةُ عَنْ بُرَيْدٍ الْعِجْلِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع أَنَّهُ كَرِهَ الشُّرْبَ فِي الْفِضَّةِ وَ فِي الْقَدَحِ الْمُفَضَّضِ وَ كَرِهَ أَنْ يُدَّهَنَ مِنْ مُدْهُنٍ مُفَضَّضٍ وَ الْمُشْطُ كَذَلِكَ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ بُدّاً مِنَ الشُّرْبِ فِي الْقَدَحِ الْمُفَضَّضِ عَدَلَ بِفَمِهِ عَنْ مَوْضِعِ الْفِضَّةِ

From Burayd Al-`Ijlee from Abee `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) that he disliked drinking in silver (utensils) and in silver-plated cups, and he dislikes perfuming in silver-plated perfume (bottles) and combs (that were silver-plated) also…

و طريق الصدوق إليه: أبوه و محمد بن الحسن و محمد بن موسى بن المتوكل - رضي الله عنهم - عن عبد الله بن جعفر الحميري، عن محمد بن الحسين بن أبي الخطاب، عن عبد الله بن محمد بن الحجال الأسدي عن أبي إسحاق ثعلبة بن ميمون.
و رواه أيضا: عن الحميري، عن عبد الله بن محمد بن عيسى، عن الحجال، عن ثعلبة.
و الطريق صحيح.

From Muhammad bin Muslim from Abee Ja`far (عليه السلام) that he prohibited from (using) gold and silver utensils.

Salawat Upon Prophet and His Family During Supplication

Here are 6 SaHeeH (Authentic) aHaadeeth that discusses the importance of sending salawaat (prayers) upon Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and His family (عليهم السلام) whenever you supplicate.


مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ وَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي نَجْرَانَ جَمِيعاً عَنْ صَفْوَانَ الْجَمَّالِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ كُلُّ دُعَاءٍ يُدْعَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ بِهِ مَحْجُوبٌ عَنِ السَّمَاءِ حَتَّى يُصَلَّى عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

From Safwaan Al-Jammaal from Abee `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) said: “Every supplication supplicated to Allaah (عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ) is concealed from the heavens until he prays upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad”

From Muhammad bin Muslim from Abee `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) that a man came to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and said, “O Messenger of Allaah, I have made a third of my prayers for you, no, rather I have made half of my prayers for you, no, rather I made all of it for you” So the Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: “You have enough supplies for this world and the hereafter”

وَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ سَيْفٍ عَنْ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع مَا مَعْنَى أَجْعَلُ صَلَاتِي كُلَّهَا لَكَ قَالَ يُقَدِّمُهُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ كُلِّ حَاجَةٍ فَلَا يَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ شَيْئاً حَتَّى يَبْدَأَ بِالنَّبِيِّ ص فَيُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ يَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ حَوَائِجَهُ

From Abee BaSeer said, I asked Abaa `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام): “What is the meaning of, ‘I make all of my prayers for you?’ he (عليه السلام) said: ‘He presents it between the hands of every need, and he does not ask Allaah (عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ) for anything until he begins with the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and prays upon him (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) then he asks Allaah for his needs”

وَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ مُرَازِمٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي جَعَلْتُ ثُلُثَ صَلَاتِي لَكَ فَقَالَ لَهُ خَيْراً فَقَالَ لَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي جَعَلْتُ نِصْفَ صَلَاتِي لَكَ فَقَالَ لَهُ ذَاكَ أَفْضَلُ فَقَالَ إِنِّي جَعَلْتُ كُلَّ صَلَاتِي لَكَ فَقَالَ إِذَنْ يَكْفِيَكَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ مَا أَهَمَّكَ مِنْ أَمْرِ دُنْيَاكَ وَ آخِرَتِكَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ أَصْلَحَكَ اللَّهُ كَيْفَ يَجْعَلُ صَلَاتَهُ لَهُ فَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع لَا يَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلَّا بَدَأَ بِالصَّلَاةِ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِهِ

From Muraazim said, Aboo `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) said: “That a man came to the Messenger of Allaah and said: “O Messenger of Allaah, I make a third of my prayers for you” So he (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: “For you is good.” So he said to him (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم): “O Messenger of Allaah, I make half of my prayers for you” So he (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: “That is better” So he (the man) said: “I make all of my prayers for you”. So he (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: “Allaah (عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ) will be accordingly sufficient for what troubles (you) from the affairs of your world and the hereafter” So the man said to him (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم): “May Allaah grant you well being, how can he make prayers for him?” So Aboo `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) said: “He will not ask Allaah (عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ) except beginning with the prayers upon Muhammad and his family”

From Hishaam bin Saalim from Abee `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) said: “No supplication will be removed from being concealed until he prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad”

الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الطُّوسِيُّ فِي الْأَمَالِي عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ الْمُفِيدِ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ قُولَوَيْهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ أَبَانِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ إِذَا دَعَا أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَبْدَأْ بِالصَّلَاةِ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ع فَإِنَّ الصَّلَاةَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ع مَقْبُولَةٌ وَ لَمْ يَكُنِ اللَّهُ لِيَقْبَلَ بَعْضَ الدُّعَاءِ وَ يَرُدَّ بَعْضاً

From Abaan bin `Uthmaan from Abee `Abd Allaah said: “When any of you supplicates, he should begin it with prayers upon the Prophet, for prayers upon the Prophet is accepted and Allaah does not accept a part of a supplication and rejects (another) part”

What to Say After Supplication

Here is a SaHeeH (Authentic) hadeeth on what to say after your supplication (du`aa). Allaah (سبحانه و تعالى) promises that He will answer and carry out your needs.

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ إِذَا دَعَا الرَّجُلُ فَقَالَ بَعْدَ مَا دَعَا- مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ اسْتَبْسَلَ عَبْدِي وَ اسْتَسْلَمَ لِأَمْرِي اقْضُوا حَاجَتَهُ

From Hishaam bin Saalim from Abee `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) said: “When a man supplicates, and says (this) after what he supplicates,

مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ
“As Allah wills, there are no means and no power without the help of Allah,”

Allaah (عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ) says: “My servant has accepted, and surrendered to my command. Carry out his needs.

Raising Your hands for Supplication

Here is a SaHeeH hadeeth going through two authentic chains that shows the etiquette of how you should do your supplications.


مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ع عَنْ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فَمَا اسْتَكانُوا لِرَبِّهِمْ وَ ما يَتَضَرَّعُونَ (المؤمنون -: 76 -) قَالَ الِاسْتِكَانَةُ هِيَ الْخُضُوعُ وَ التَّضَرُّعُ رَفْعُ الْيَدَيْنِ وَ التَّضَرُّعُ بِهِمَا
From Muhammad bin Muslim said, I asked Abaa Ja`far (عليه السلام) about the words of Allaah (عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ) “but they did not istikaanoo to their lord nor yataDarra`oon"(23:76), he (عليه السلام) said: “Al-Istikaanah is submission and al-taDarru` is raising both hands and begging by them

Kissing the Hand of Scholars

Nowadays we see that people when they greet scholars they kissed their head or hand, but is this correct per the teaching of the Ahl Al-Bayt (عليهم السلام)? Or is kissing the hand or head is restricted only to those special personalities?


عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ رِفَاعَةَ بْنِ مُوسَى عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ لَا يُقَبَّلُ رَأْسُ أَحَدٍ وَ لَا يَدُهُ إِلَّا يَدُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص أَوْ مَنْ أُرِيدَ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص

From Rifaa`ah bin Moosa from Abee `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) “No one’s head or hand is kissed except the hand of Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) or one who is intended to be for the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) (i.e. A'immah (عليهم السلام))**”

** Al-FayD Al-Kaashaanee said in his Al-Waafi, vol. 5, pg. 617, that مَنْ أُرِيدَ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‏ means A'immah (عليهم السلام). He said this is because of the next hadeeth mentioned.



عَلِيٌّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ زَيْدٍ النَّرْسِيِّ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مَزْيَدٍ صَاحِبِ السَّابِرِيِّ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع فَتَنَاوَلْتُ يَدَهُ فَقَبَّلْتُهَا فَقَالَ أَمَا إِنَّهَا لَا تَصْلُحُ إِلَّا لِنَبِيٍّ أَوْ وَصِيِّ نَبِيٍّ 

From Alee bin Mazeed SaaHib Al-Saabiree said, I entered upon Aboo `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) and I held his hand and kissed it, so he (عليه السلام) said “As for that (kissing the hand) it is not correct except for the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) or the successors of the Prophet”

Al-Mazandarānī says:

قوله ( أو من أريد به رسول الله ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) ) أريد به الوصي وسيصرح به في الخبر التالي
His (عليه السلام) saying: (or the one who is intended to be for the Messenger of Allāh (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ‘it is intended for his wasī (successors), and this is shown in the khabar that is following’

Then he says in the next ḥadīth:

قوله ( أما إنها لا تصلح إلا لنبي أو وصي نبي ) ظاهره عدم جواز قبلة اليد لغيرهما .

His (عليه السلام) saying: (As for that (kissing the hand), it is not correct except for the Prophet or the Successor of the Prophet), ‘it is apparent (from this) that it is impermissible to kiss the hand of other than those two (The Prophet or Successors)’


Here is what is said in our books regarding kissing your fellow believer.

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنِ الْعَمْرَكِيِّ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ع قَالَ مَنْ قَبَّلَ لِلرَّحِمِ ذَا قَرَابَةٍ فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ شَيْ‏ءٌ وَ قُبْلَةُ الْأَخِ عَلَى الْخَدِّ وَ قُبْلَةُ الْإِمَامِ بَيْنَ عَيْنَيْهِ
From `Alī bin Ja`far from Abī al-Hasan (عليه السلام) said: “Whoever kisses his relatives out of compassion, there is nothing against him, and kissing of a brother is upon the cheek, and kissing of the Imām is between the eyes”

Al-Majlisī says:
قبلة الأخ
 أي النسبي أو الإيماني
“Kissing the brother” – It is by lineage or by faith

Al-Mazandarānī  says:

قوله ( من قبل للرحم ذا قرابة ) أي لأجل الرحم أو لصلتها والتقبيل هنا وإن كان عاما لكن ينبغي أن يراد به تقبيل غير اليد والرجل لما مر .
His (عليه السلام) saying: (whoever kisses his relative out of compassion) – it is for the compassion or for relation, and the kissing here, and it is in the general (sense), but it is desirable that he intends to kiss other than the hand of a man because of what has passed
