Boundaries of the Neighbor

Here is a Hasan (Good) adīth that shows us the limit of your neighbor, so when we read adīth from the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) that says:  ‘One who spends the night with his stomach full while his neighbor is hungry does not believe in me’, we know now what is meant by “neighbor”.

From Jamīl bin Darrāj from Abī Ja`far (عليه السلام) said: “The boundaries of the neighbor is forty houses from each side: from in front of him, from behind him, from his right and from his left”

  1. Asalaamu Alaikum,

Do you think it applies more to Muslim communities? Because I live in a non-Muslim country and I feel like it would make more sense if my neighbors and I shared the same faith.

  2. Wa `Alaykum Assalaam,

I have not seen any hadeeth to suggest this is particular to Muslim countries.

  3. Salam,

Are we talking about both Muslims and non Muslims?
