Here is a Muwaththaq (Reliable) hadeeth that tells us that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) had ten names, five that are mentioned in the Holy Qur’ān and five that are not mentioned in the Qur’ān.
From Muhammad bin Muslim from Abī Ja`far (عليه السلام) said: “Verily for the Messenger of Allāh (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) there are ten names, five of which is in the Qur’ān and five are not in the Qur’ān. As for what is in the Qur’ān are Muḥammad, Aḥmad, `Abd Allāh, Ya-Sīn, Nūn, and as for what is not in the Qur’ān are al-Fātiḥ, al-Khātim, al-Kāfī, al-Muqfī and al-Ḥāshir”

Salamu Alaykum,
ReplyDeleteOne difference between the names in the Quran and the names outside of the Quran seems to be the presence/absence of the "Al" article or prefix.
I was under the impression that the "Al" prefix should only be place before any of God's names.
Did I have a wrong understanding?
