Reciting Salawat Removes Hypocrisy

Here are two Ḥasan (Good) or Ṣaḥīḥ (Authentic) ḥadīth about reciting salawāt removes nifāq. Also, in the second ḥadīth it says that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) says to “raise your voices” when saying salawāt, which this can be seen in Shī`ah centers all over the world. Both aḥādīth have the same chain of narrators.

`Alī b. Ibrāhīm[1] from his father[2] from Ibn Abī `Umayr[3] from `Abd Allāh b. Sinān[4] from Abī `Abd Allāh said, the Messenger of Allāh (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), “Salāh (Prayers) upon me and upon my Ahl al-Bayt removes hypocrisy (nifāq)[5]

[`Alī b. Ibrāhīm[6] from his father[7] from] Ibn Abī `Umayr[8] from `Abd Allāh b. Sinān[9] from Abī `Abd Allāh, that he heard him say that the Messenger of Allāh (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, “Raise your voices in Salāh (prayers) upon me, for it removes hypocrisy (nifāq)”[10]

  1. Do you have any idea why people say it every time after the Prophet's name or the Imams?

It feels like people are forcing it. They seem to be adding a bit to the end now too (for the coming of Imam Mahdi)

  2. Assalaamu `Alaykum,

The addition of Imam Mahdi is not confirmed through authentic aHaadeeth. But people may get the proof of saying Salawaat whenever the Prophet's name is mentioned by this hadeeth that I posted on my blog. Click here: http://www.revivingalislam.com/2010/09/sending-salawaat-on-prophet-during.html

Now, you do not always have to do it out loud, you can do it to yourself. But as this has said, the Prophet commanded us to raise our voices in Salawaat upon him.

    Wa `Alaykum Assalaam

  3. As-salaamu 'alaykum,

Is there a hadeeth which instructs the Shi'a the best way to send salawaat upon the Prophetصلى الله عليه وآله ?
As for the addition for 'Imaam Mahdi (as), even if it isn't confirmed through authentic ahaadeeth, I don't think there would be a problem saying it if it is a du'aa' to Allaah (swt) to hasten the faraj. Is there a problem in saying? Along with the la'an towards the enemies collectively?

  5. The issue isn't whether there is no problem in it, the whole point is to focus on exactly how the Ahlul al-Bayt followed the Prophet's Sunnah, nothing more and nothing less. Our A'immah are very strict in saying, you execute our Hadith to a '"T", with no additions or subtractions.

The whole point of the blog is to go back to the authentic Sunnah of the Prophet via the Ahlul Bayt, while we minus the culture and bid`ah that has crept into Shī'ism today.
